Heathkit HERO Jr Robot RT-1-4 1984 .Up for sale here is a Heathkit HERO Jr robot. Heathkit released the HERO Jr in 1984 as a slightly smaller version of the HERO-1 robot. The HERO Jr was intended for the home market and cost $1000 as an assembled kit (and this one looks like it was professionally assembled). I picked up this robot in 1999 at a chicago thrift store and took it that year to a collector's convention where some more technically-inclined collector buddies of mine were actua...lly able to hook up the robot using a PC power supply and some gator clips and get the robot running. He moved, talked, patroled and worked perfectly. After that, i took him home and put him into the back of a closet where he remained until i took him out just now to sell. He is clean and in excellent condition inside and out -- i removed his front and back panels and took a bunch of pictures so you can see. However, i never paid attention to how my friends hooked him up so i haven't plugged him in to test him now because i am afraid i will fry him (tho' i am including the original PC power supply and gator clips that were used to power him up). He is model # RT 1-4 (this is the version with 2 extra batteries to extend his operating time). His series # is 02-55657. His serial # is RTW-1, J443E292, Lot 55271. Inside he has the 4 6V dry cells that are his power supply (and when you look at his closeups, you can see some of the power leads are disconnected -- again, this was where my friends must have hooked him up as i never touched any of this). The batteries are clean, but their functionality is untested. On the back of his head is the on/off switch, sleep/normal switch, RS-232 interface and charger plug (charger not included). On the left side of his head he has a speaker, a sound sensor and his antenna. On the front of his head he has an IR motion detector, sonar sensor and light sensor. There is nothing on the right side of his head. On top of his head, he has the keypad control panel, a series of lights and a cartridge port. Overall he is very clean and in excellent condition -- only 2 things to point out -- he is missing one of the rubber grommets on the back left bottom corner (see closeup) -- thats where the back panel locks on, so that bottom corner of the back panel sits loosely. And then, on the top compartment there are two 'lines' thats where the gator clip wires were sitting and melted into his plastic a little.
