Original Description:
DESCRIPTION ... a modernist commissioned solid silver table Vesta box given by ( Queen Victoria ) to ( Prince Wilhelm II )before becoming ( Kaiser Willhelm II ) .The box commissioned by ( Johann & Sohn ) jewellers to, the Imperial court . The reverse of the box bares the retailers name and 838 fineness silver mark .To the front corner of the box in gold and red enamel is one of the monograms of Willhelm II ( W below a gold crown ) .On the inside of the case the Queens signature ( Victo...ria ) can be seen engraved into the lid .
PROVENANCE ... the box was inherited by prince Frederick of Prussia , grandson of the Kaiser who married lady Brigid Guinness daughter to, the 2nd earl of Iveagh .On the princes death Brigid gave the box to Bernard Norfolk duke of Norfolk whose widow gave it to his juniors .
SIZE ...9.2 by 6 by 3.8 cm .
WEIGHT ... 218.3 grams .
CONDITION ... good condition , some light wear from use , the striker material still present to the reverse with wear around the outer edge .
