O& EG ROYAL AUSTRIA BOWL SHAPE HAND PAINTED BLUE FLOWERS OPEN SALT CELLARDIP This is a charming and unusuallyshaped dainty little china salt in a shallow bowl shape. It is 100% hand painted with blue flowers andaccompanying greenery on a pastel blue and yellow background that completelyencircles the bowl. The top rim is alsohand painted with gold trim.I am gradually selling my salt cellar and individual nutdish collection that at one time was over 1, 800 pieces. T...his particular piece has been in mycollection since 1988.Thesalt is signed with an “O. & E. G. ROYAL AUSTRIA” mark in green on thebottom. This mark is from the Oscar& Edgar Gutherz Company. Accordingto the book Kovels’ New Dictionary ofMarks: Pottery & Porcelain 1850 To the Present by Ralph & TerryKovel this mark would have been in use from 1899-1918. This same mark is pictured on page 74 (MarkI) of the above book. Asalt that appears to be the same shape as this one is pictured in the book 5, 000Open Salts by William Heacock & Patricia Johnson as photo # 1297.A beautiful and desirable little salt!I do my best to describe all items as accurately as possibleand to the best of my ability. It is in excellent to near mint originalcondition. Please look closely at thephotos as they are an important part of my description of this item. Other than one extremely miniscule flea biteto the top rim, there are no chips, flea bites, repairs, cracks, crazing orhairlines to the porcelain. The gold allappears to me to be very close to mint condition – see the photos. Please keep in mind the photos may be blown upat least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see will look 8-10 times larger inthe photos than it really is.Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos it is frommy camera and is not a mark on the piece. It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom orslightly above center on the right side of the photo.Approximate DimensionsThe salt is about 1.875 (4.8 cm) across and sits about .875”(2.2 cm) off the table.Approximate WeightAbout .625 ounce (19 grams).
