Pretty Kelva dresser box for rings and things...made by CF Monroe's Wavecrest Ware in Meriden, Ct. circa 1900. The Kelva line was only made for a short time and had a dabbed on painted surface; with lovely original art work, usually of flowers. This piece has a dark pink surface with a tinge of cranberry on the dabbed edges. The flowers are a gray/blue/white color with yellow and brown centers which surround the cover. The cover comes up to a raised point almost like a small umbrella. ...Measures approx. 3 inches across. Purchased directly from a descendant of a former employee of the Wavecrest factory on West Main St. Condition: The silk lining is long gone. Dabbed paint and flowers are still vibrant and fresh. The brass fitting around the collar is a little loose at the joint when you open it, probably from being top heavy. There is no damage to the brass collar....or the little tab that opens the box. There is some old tarnish to the brass fitting but all in all..it is in very good condition. No chips, cracks, or damage.
