1827 Paradise Lost Milton JOHN MARTIN 24 Mezzotints First Edition ANTIQUE
Item History & Price
John Martin's mezzotint illustrations were a breakthrough for their time, and are some of the finest ever printed.Often considered alongside Gustave Dore and William Blake, these plates are currently selling individually for up to £277.That'd make this volume worth £6648 if sold in the same way. An 1827 similar set of this same work is listed on eBay for £3900 and is in arguably worse condition than this one.
A truly beautiful example, with remarkable binding, and good quality plates. Condition matters hugely with these illustrations - and these are some of the finer examples I've seen.Book measures 11.1 inches x 8.3 inches.Pages measure 10.8 inches x 7.4 inches
