For your consideration: a real treasure...elusive, rare and on many doll collector's "wish lists"! Known as a French Leather Baby, I listed under cloth, since she is in the same vein as early Chase, Shepherd, etc. This doll is rarer, but may appeal to cloth doll collectors.
Circa 1920's, this baby is 5" long, jointed (they are attached with cord, but are floppy) at neck, shoulders and hips. Impasto painted blonde hair. Firmly stuffed with batting all leather body, painted and blus...hed. Tiny toes and mitt hands with fingers. Some minor, no harm, paint wear on legs, especially right front (please look at photos closely, as there are no returns!) , And right arm at shoulder has bend, and batting peeking out on back of arm near a seam separation...please check out closely and know right arm has more irregularities than left.Head and face on this cherub is wonderfully done and detailed! Super hair sculpting, tiny blushed molded ears. Minimal but age related wear mostly on body, head is really wonderful. Gorgeous face and beautifully done blue eyes. All of these babies are hand painted, so each has a slightly different look and some are cuter! This one is sweet beyond compare! However, check out the page from an article from Antique Doll World to see similar babies.She wears an old organdy baby dress with short puff sleeves, gathered neck (slightly wide) and hook and eye closure. Fits well, looks good, but can't guarantee that it is original, since I purchased from 3rd party years ago.
