Antique Bonneville 2099 French Professional Silver Head Flute C. 1890
Item History & Price
This exceptional instrument was carefully handmade by Auguste Bonneville in Paris around 1890 using solid silver for the headjoint and silver plated maillechort for the body and footjoint. Before opening his own shop in 1876, Bonneville worked with Louis Lot and Godfroy Aîné. That's why the craftmanship is so beautiful on this flute. Like Louis Lot flutes, Bonneville instruments... are today chosen by a growing number of soloists, all over the world.
Very good original condition. Plays with a rich and full sound, except in the lower notes because of some air leaks. Pads still look in good condition but will probably need a little adjustment. Mechanics plays fluently. Soldered tone holes. Untouched oval hole. Some plating wear here and there (please see pics). As usual, headjoint tenon was recut by a few millimeters to ease playing at A=440Hz. Short hairline crack on the tenon would have to be resoldered (see last pic). Original case in good condition with forged steel key – the lock works!
This great flute would certainly benefit from some attention, but in its original condition she delivers a very rich and singing sound in Louis Lot spirit, typical of the French Flute Golden Age. As often with Bonneville, her projection is a tad higher compared to Louis Lot flutes. That's why they are sometime preferred by today musicians. This one is even more desirable because of her solid silver headjoint, very rare on Bonneville flutes. It adds a bit more core and deepness in the sound. Please admire the perfect oval cut of the embouchure! If you're after a great French flute or headjoint for a bargain price, don't miss it!
Full length: 670 mm. Sounding length: 595 mm. Embouchure size 10.4 x 12.4 mm.
No reserve auction!
