She's lovely, her dress is intricate, and the flower she's holding makes that perfect final touch. There's a small amount of lace loss, very subtle, not particularly noticeable. This is to be expected in a figurine this old. For being minimally 70+ years old, it's Amazing she's in such Fantastic Condition.
She's about 3.5 inches tall, which is a little bigger than the average Dresden Figurine. Most of them are a little less t...han 3 inches tall. She has the Treasured Volksted Hallmark. Volkstedt was one of the PREMIER porcelain maufacturers.
Dresden porcelain lace is so fragile that finding one without a chip is a difficult thing to do. Those with chips, still retain a high value because of their rarity.
Dresden Germany was destroyed during WW2. It was spared Allied bombing throughout much of the war. The residents ultimately believed that it was to be spared completely due to it's incredible porcelain manufacturing. So much so that refugees from other parts of Germany went there, believing they would be safe.
Unfortunately they were all wrong. Dresden and the surrounding area was destroyed towards the end of the war in an event now called "The Dresden Firebombing." There were more people killed in that bombing than there were in Hiroshima and Nagasaki put together. The city was gone, including 90% of the porcelain manufacturing facilities and their molds, their processes, everything.
After the war Dresden and it's surroundings became part of the Eastern Block, USSR. The few remaining porcelain manufacturers tried to continue with what kittle was left, but the bulk of the artists had either died in the firestorm, or had fled to Bavaria to escape Soviet control. The quality of their products sharply declined, and ultimately they stopped producing; for the most part.
This piece is Pre-WW2, I believe it dates from sometime in the 1930's. It''s a small miracle that it hadn't been damaged in the last 70 years. She's lovely and irreplaceable. If she's taken care of, her value will only increase with time.
I Included a couple of pictures of a Dresden Lace Figurine made DIRECTLY after the war. The difference in the Quality is Astounding. On the photo of the bottom of the box it says "U.S. Zone, " the USSR zone was worse. Later, it all became under Soviet control. So, with a few exceptions, the industry died.
I speak from personal experience, they are highly fragile. The makers frequently gave the figurines weighted bases to make them much more stable.
This one is truly lovely, nearly perfect, and she's a once in a lifetime purchase or gift.
She will be shipped in much larger box than would seem necessary. That is because she literally needs to remain "suspended" in foam space while being shipped. This raises the shipping costs, so I'm taking on half and letting you, the buyer, take on the other half. It doesn'tp matter how many "fragile" stickers are on any box, it is going to be thrown and kicked while in transit.
Please look at the photos thoroughly as they are the bulk of my description.
