Here is a rare and seldom seen antique 19th century, Qing Dynasty, Chinese straight sword, Jian with hand forged, double-edged, steel blade of diamond section cut with a narrow fuller, tip with a so-called “male point" of triangular shape. The blade is further decorated with six brass dots and one hole missing the dot, representing the Big Dipper constellation, an important constellation in Taoism. The blade is chiseled on one side of the ricasso with a dragon chasing a flaming pearl..., a common motif on civilian swords of the Qing Dynasty. The other side is more unusual, it is marked in a script that I can't translate so see please see photo. Hilt with brass shaped and engraved pommel and decorated cross guard. The handle is exposed wood missing the brown braided cord wrap and it is loose. The sword fits perfectly In its original wooden scabbard bound in brass wire. The scabbard shows age and usage, is worn to the wood in places on both edges(see photos), the blade is stained, has a slight bend with nicks on the edges, and scratches on the surface. After you view all of the photos, you be the final judge as to condition. It has a hand forged steel blade. No attempt has been made to clean the blade or brass parts of this 100 plus year old sword. It is in as found condition. However, this is a very scarce sword and hardly offered for sale. Overall length of the sword sheathed in the scabbard: 38 inches). Overall length without the scabbard: 36 1/2". Width of the bade at the bottom of the decorated cross guard is 1 3/16". length of the blade: 28 13/16 to the bottom of the hilt.
