For auction is a wonderful piece of pottery made by The Weller Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The shape is a bud vase. This vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 5 3/16" tall and is approximately 3 7/8" in diameter at the bottom diagonal measurement. The opening in the top is tapered in and is approximately 1" in diameter inside measurements. The vase displays a hex shaped bottom with a column or stem that rises up and is also 6 sided. The top lip flares out and ...then up and over. The top lip is 6 sided as well to keep uniformity in its shape. It is further accented with applied buttressed shaped fins that are applied vertically to the body of the vase and connect just under the top lip. There are 3 of these fins proportionally applied that could act a handles. The background glaze is done in one of Weller's most popular and highly collected glazes called "Bedford Matt Green". This vase has a wonderful arts and crafts shape. The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. There is a glaze imperfection of the top lip and this is pictured. The piece is not signed but it does display that painted blue green bottom which is as good as a signature. This painted bottom is synonymous with Weller Pottery. This form in the Bedford Matt green line is considered quite desirable. This vase was made early at the turn of the century circa 1915. A lovely piece of arts and crafts pottery to add to your collection.
