Here is an antique English made carving or hunting knife with a Stag Red - Roe DEER antler handle.
Lets just clarify for the ebay police do-gooder busy body R. Soles that report items like this.... this handle is made from DEER antler Red or Roe deer ... they sell bits of these Antlers as DOG CHEWS by the kilo here on ebay as well as thousands of other outlet stores...this is an antique knife handle made from stag antler.. its nothing sinister, its not a rare breed or an endagered species ... what is more endagered are ebay sellers like myself up against the do-gooder ebay police that have nowt else better to do than troll round looking for items to report. 100% everytime these type of knives are made from DEER ANTLER. Made in Sheffield England we have an abundance of Roe and Red deer.. we dont have the American, Canadian or other world species from the deer family.....manufacturers use their nearest materials available.
The blade is stamped with maker's name Chris Johnson & Co., Sheffield. ...with the FLAG CJ trade mark.
It has brass finger guard turned up at the top only.
Handle is a piece of antler which has been cut with a slot at the blade end only and the blade is fixed with 2 brass rivets only.
Blade is single edge and has been used.. the blade has slight tarnish and staining but still in good condition.
Comes in a leather sheath but I don't think this is original to the blade...this is a later addition but it stops you sticking yourself..... use the sheath for something else.
It is in good collectible condition with normal signs of age and use wear. The leather sheath has surface scuffs and some fading etc. in places.
Looking in the slot where the handle fits in the stag handle I can see rust and its bubbling off the tang.. remember this knife is ANTIQUE 19th Century and will have been wet and thats why the tang is doing this.
The knife is 12 and 3/4 inches long in total.
