Offered for your consideration are three beautiful and Villeroy & Bock Mettlach art nouveau tile that is dust-pressed in high relief depicting Neptune. Circa 1900-1910. The tile measures approximately 6 inches. Unmarked. For information on the manufacturer, we recommend you read Ken Forster’s very informative book referenced below.
FYI -- Ken started collecting art nouveau tiles around 1980 in such places as Germany, Chile, Uruguay, and Brazil, to name ...a few. After writing his book on University of North Dakota School of Mines (UND) pottery he decided to write “Tiles & Styles—Jugendstil & Secession: Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts Design in German and Central European Decorative Tiles, 1895-1935, ” 240 pp., copyright 2015. This was not included in Ken’s book.
Condition: Really good condition with one little rough area on the upper left corner and on the head dress. Very light crazing which is only visible when the tile is tilted to the side. Please see photographs for additional details.
