1996 Gibson Custom Shop Firebird VII Vintage Reissue Electric Guitar W/ohc
Item History & Price
The neck features a medium C shaped profile with good shoulders and just a hair more depth as you travel up the bound ebony fretboard. The profile measures .837" deep at the first fret, graduating to .911" at the 12th fret. Unlike other Firebird models which have rosewood boards, the ebony fretboard on this VII adds that distinct clarity and attack for which this tone wood is known, giving focus to the hot pickups. The frets are in remarkable shape with perfectly rounded crowns and virtually no wear, and the guitar conforms to vintage Gibson spec with a 24 3/4" scale. The nut has been upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone, measuring 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the banjo tuners turn smoothly, and the back of the headstock has a gold Custom Shop Gibson logo.
All of the electronics work as they should, with untouched solder joints and CTS pots which date to the 26th week of 1996. The gold hardware shows light wear through the gold plating on the middle and bridge pickup covers, as well as the bass side edge of the bridge bass and tailpiece studs. Minor cosmetic wear includes light buckle rash on the back but not through the finish and a few small scattered nicks on the guitar as a whole. This Firebird VII is a rare Custom Shop iteration with just the right patina, flawless frets, and a professional setup.
The original brown tolex Gibson hardshell case with plush pink interior is included.
