Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a lovely Rookwood Art Pottery vase, shape #5204 F, dated 1931 and signed by artist Lenore Asbury. This nice vase has a matte vellum glaze and soft grayish-cream color with a charcoal colored rim and floral design around top part of vase. Flowers are painted a soft cream and pink color with green foliage. The vase is marked with the incised Rookwood Pottery trademark "flame" stamp with "XXXI" below which dates... the vase to 1931, shape number "5204 F" with "V" below and decorator's initials "L A" for Lenore Asbury. Measures 4 1/4" high with a maximum width of 4 1/4" with a 2" diameter top. Weighs 11.6 ounces. The vase is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws and a clean finish free of any crazing.The Rookwood Pottery Company was founded by Maria Longworth Nichols in 1880 and won numerous prestigious awards with their early pottery. However, over the years she became less involved with the company and in 1890 the Rookwood Pottery Company was reorganized with William Taylor becoming President. Rookwood is considered the premier name in American Art Pottery and even the more common pieces of the production ware period are collected for their elegant beauty. The Depression was difficult for the Rookwood factory although they continued to operate until 1967 when the factory was finally forced to close.
