Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a beautiful Rookwood Art Pottery 6" vase, shape # 1358 F, dated 1926. Measures 5" high with a top diameter of 2 1/4" and base diameter of 3 1/8". Weighs 11.6 ounces.This nice vase has a slender body widening as it nears the base with a beautiful gray-blue matte color. The vase is marked with the incised Rookwood Pottery trademark "flame" stamp with "XXVI" below (which dates the vase to 1926) a...nd number "1358 F". This vase is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws.
The Rookwood Pottery Company was founded by Maria Longworth Nichols in 1880 and won numerous prestigious awards with their early pottery. However, over the years she became less involved with the company and in 1890 the Rookwood Pottery Company was reorganized with William Taylor becoming President. Rookwood is considered the premier name in American Art Pottery and even the more common pieces of the production ware period are collected for their elegant beauty. The Depression was difficult for the Rookwood factory although they continued to operate until 1967 when the factory was finally forced to close.
