Offered here is a nicely wooded Mittenwald Germany Export 4/4 Violin. (The back measures 14 1/4 inches, a German measurement) It is called an Export violin as it was made in Germany for export to the USA. It is from 1920, in my opinion, and bears a typical Strad Label of that period.This violin has no real problems at all on the table (top) where there is a 1 inch repaired and holding F hole crack on the bass-bar. The neck has splicing under the fingerboard (see pictures) and looks lik...e a professional job. The scroll and neck show evidence or gluing but are solid now.There are the usual scuffs and scrapes to the varnish one would expect from a violin of this age. The tuning pegs match and are a tad sticky (peg dope?) The instrument is very playable and requires no further work. The sound is very big, round, and a good player, even with the old strings on it. This violin has good construction. The wood is tight fine grain spruce on the table and choice flamed maple on the ribs, back, neck. Violin shops in the USA might retail this violin for $800. I have appraised violins for State Farm for over 45 years and this violin is really worth $800. or more. NOW YOU CAN OWN IT FOR LESS! The violin is sold as is and as pictured.
