Antique Vintage August Pollmann Mandoline Guitar, six strings, rare, complete. This August Pollmann Mandoline Guitar has a six string guitar style neck, paired with a teardrop shaped "mandolin" body with a 10" bout. All solid mahogany back and sides, with a plain spruce top with a soundhole rosette, inlaid pickguard, multiple bound top, original bridge and original Wm. Gerke Patent 1888 Providence Rhode Island tailpiece...original May 1888 patent friction tuners. There is a bone nut an...d a wooden peg in the tail end. The medallion in the headtsock is the standard Pollmann stamped ivoroid but this one is a photographic reproduction of an original – a custom decal on a plastic disk. The fretboard is Brazillian Rosewood with frets in good condition and white mother of pearl position markers. August Pollmann was an instrument distributor in the 1890's and his catalog included both regular five-string banjos, Mandoline banjos and mandoline-guitars such as this one. These instruments were believed to have been made for Pollmann by Pehr Anderberg, a Swedish-born guitar maker."
