Up for auction a rather nice 1931-1936 HORROCKS-IBBOTSON (Winchester) No.323N "UTK" 60-YARD RAISED PILLAR CASTING REEL WITH ORIGINAL CHIMNEY BOX. A nice find in the original box. The No.323N is actually identical to Winchester's No.2242 model that was sold throughout the 1920's. When the Horrocks-Ibbotson Co. purchased the Fishing Tackle Division of Winchester Repeating Arms Co. in 1930, this reel was simply stamped with H-I's trade marked "UTK" brand, renumbered as No.323N and added t...o their catalogs, along with a host of other reels that were previously Winchester models. I've added photos of both the 1920's Winchester listing and the original listing from Horrocks-Ibbotson's 1932 catalog. Face plate is stamped "UTK - Trade Mark - Reg. U.S. Pat. Off.", while under the foot is the underlined "60" yardage mark (they would still sell the old Winchester models with the underlined mark until the end of production before WWII). Comes equipped with strong clicker & drag, raised pillars and a counterbalanced handle with what looks like a bone grip. This double multiplying reel is in about Good or better condition, showing overall wear (with the grip showing some cracks and what looks like scorching), but still displays nicely. Works perfectly and is very smooth-running. Put up in the original chimney box, itself in Good or better condition. It remains solid and complete, with a virtually complete top label. A tough transitional combo to find from Horrocks-Ibbotson/Winchester, all original and complete. To be sold with a very low starting bid and NO RESERVE.
