Superb mid 19thc gothic mahogany carved winged gargoyle pediment. Dating c.1860's.Excellent attention to detail on this fine gothic pediment. The pediment is carved in fine relief with two magnificent winged gargoyles holding a swag in mouth and each flanking a central armorial crest. The gargoyles are beautifully carved with gothic wings: half mythological beast/half man with the creatures having human breasts. They have claw feet with the body of each ending i...n a stylised acanthus leaf. Central crest has a swag and scrolled detail to the top. Fabulous pediment. A fine carved piece of excellent quality and detail.The pediment measures some 9 height x 20.5" length. Condition is excellent and age commensurate with a minor bit of chipping to a couple of wing tips. Nothing of any import at all. All as per images.
