Presented is a lovely antique match holder made in Germany in the late 1800's. This figural features a very sweet scene of a blond-haired girl in a pink dress and blue hat holding her dog's puppies in her apron, with her dog seated before her, looking up at them and raising her paw. There are two containers for matchsticks or toothpicks or other items, fashioned as slightly ruffled tree stumps ...behind them. A ridged, unglazed strike plate lines the back side's bottom edge.
The underside of the figural piece bears an indistinctly excised maker's mark and identifying number as well as "IS.", hand-signed in blue paint.
The condition of this antique piece is good. Mother dog is missing one brown ear and the blue hat has some very old nicks and a firing fissure. We find no other cracks, chips or damages anywhere on the piece.
