RARE BLACK LABEL VELVET HIPPIE BOHO PRINCESS GUNNE SAX DREAM DRESS S/M
Item History & Price
~*SUPER RARE BLACK LABEL VELVET HIPPIE BOHO PRINCESS GUNNE SAX DREAM DRESS S/M~*
DESCRIPTION: This amazing dress was made by Gunne Sax in San Francisco, California and bears the famous early "Black Label" plus the label for Joseph Magnin, where most of the more upscale velvet & muslin dresses were sold to wealthy clientele. This dress features jute trims and also woven folkloric ribbons which were imported from Germany. The main fabric is unbleached muslin and the c...ontrast is a richly hued velvet fabric. Sleeves are made in three parts with juliet caps, fullness at the elbows and elegantly elongated tapered cuffs. Unlike later models, these do not have a zip entry so are not quite as fitted for ease of getting your hand through the cuff. Bodice features an empire style waist and round upper yoke. Waist does not cinch with tie-backs on this dress and in its place is the jute trim going all the way round to the back. Dress zips up the back with a 20 inch nylon zipper. Size tag is missing but I estimate this is a vintage 11. Bust is 35 inches and waist is 29 inches. It will probably look best on a 34 bust with approximately 28 inch waistline. Hips are full and overall length from shoulder to hemline is 52 inches. Note, these earlier made dresses (late 1960s to early 1970s) that lack flounces are usually several inches shorter than dresses she designed later on. If you are exceptionally tall, please bear this in mind. This item is freshly washed and line dried in beautiful October sunshine. ❤️ It was photographed at Moreton Corbet Castle in Shropshire, England.
Welcome to the Turtle Bay Trading Post! Here you will find an assortment of handmade artisan jewelry (usually incorporating vintage and antique buttons!) actual vintage and antique jewelry and vintage clothing and accessories from the 1890s to the 1980s. I've taken a long break from selling on eBay due to health issues and also pursuing other work, but now I'm back! Bear with me as I relearn everything from the bottom up - things change so often in this forum it can make your head spin! Wish our "bosses" knew change doesn't always equal improvement! Well, we can live in hope. *Oh, and I want to mention those hideously tacky advertisement campaigns that our listing pages are plastered with. Does anyone out there actually believe that this could be effective in any way? It's distracting, and looks horrible. It detracts from the value of our work. There. I've said it.
