VTG 1930s 1940s WWII CREPE & SATIN Black Pink & Gold Dress 30s 40s Rare As - Is S
Item History & Price
Original 1938 pink with raised gold thread silk & black crepe dress. Wow! This dress feels very dreamy with silky soft semi-sheer top and airy crepe. My obsession with Lana Turner pulled me to this dress ... it has the same vibe as her 1939 film "Dancing Coed" dress (see last photo for inspo). This is from a recent estate sale and I wanted this beauty cherished in a new home.
CONDITION:
Being sold as-is. Excellent study piece or base for reconstructing as it needs major TLC. The black crepe is very usable. I purchase this beautiful dress from a recent estate sale, I had it dry cleaned and the cleaners damaged the top half of this beautiful dress. They offered to cut the top and made a skirt out of the bottom. The top makes this dress studding. I said I will take my changes and list it, a designer might like to copy this dress. It does have a label Dress Design Copyrighted 1938. The tears are to the top only several in the front and back. The original belt tie feels secure and strong.
SIZE:
Tag does not state size if it did it wouldn't be for today's size. lol, but approx size Small. The only closure is the eight well made buttons on the back of the neck, the only way to get the dress on is pulling it on overhead. The chest and waist measurements appear larger because of the design and the intended belt cinching, so the "shoulder to shoulder" and arm length/cuff measurements are pretty key. Measurements laying flat are:Chest 18”Waist 14”Hips 17”Shoulder to shoulder 17.5”Sleeve length 18.5” from armpit, 23” from shoulder (wrist cuff is 8” wide & included in measurement)Length 51"Length from Waist to hem (where belt loops are) 38"On Dec-10-20 at 08:24:51 PST, seller added the following information:Please note the top is not satin, more of a semi-sheer silk. Thank you.
