Antique 1920’s Red Silk Floral Flapper Dress W Jacket Fringe Sash Art Deco As - Is
Item History & Price
Condition: Being sold as-as. The dress is actually pretty great structurally. It has lighter stains throughout (most concentrated on front floral but elsewhere as well). The skirt has a couple more prominent small dark stains on the ...back (and a lighter dark spot near front bottom hem). The built-in sash belt needs reattached at the hip on one side (slightly longer so will need to figure out exactly how it was configured) and its folds ironed exactly so again. The accompanying long sash with fringe is really excellent structurally and has a couple of those faded stains again (one kind of large dot visible in photo towards where it’s attached). The fringe sash is stitched in place with thread on the bottom edge and pinned at the top. I couldn’t quite figure out how it was intended because the other sash detail is in place at the waist too. The only hole I’ve located is a small one just below the more obvious black mark on the back of the skirt, but you can see thin areas in the red fabric when held to the light. Based on the jacket (described below), the red silk wasn’t as resistant to age as the floral pattern, though didn't fair too badly on the dress. One last note is the side hems of the skirt need restitched in spots.
By comparison the matching jacket has very fragile material with seriously shredded areas under the arms and back. Definitely just a study piece though the end of the sleeves with floral are pretty good and might be salvaged. The cuffs have snap closures.
Comes from a smoke-free home. There’s no overpowering scents but when I did some light ironing (it could use more) it unleashed a fierce mothball smell. It smells pretty neutral again after airing out.
Size: XS/S, but XS may be best because there is no way to get into it other than pulling it on overhead( ie you have to squeeze through the waist measurement). I’m a consistent Small and have tried it on in the past, but it’s precarious and the threads aren’t strong enough for much pressure (though the dress fit well once on). Actual measurements laying flat are:Dress:Chest 17”Shoulder to shoulder 15”Waist 13.5”Hips 22” (free)Length 43”Waist (above belt) to hem 25”Jacket:Shoulder to shoulder 13.5”Length 16”Sleeve length 17” from armpit, 23” from shoulderCuff opening when snapped 3.25”Armpit to armpit from back 19”
