I am selling the flag that was my Uncles burial flag. He was killed in action in March, 1945 in Germany. It measures 57" by 9' 3", has all gold stars on one side and all white stars on the other. The stars are faded into the white stripes on both sides, more so on the gold side than the white side. (see pics). It is too big to get a full pic and I won't lay it on the ground to do that.It has been folded away for 74 years. The colors are bright and vibrant. The material s...eems to be cotton, with no holes or stains except for the star fading on both sides.I've tried to research it, and all I could find is that the gold star flags were possibly made by, and in, France in late 1944 for the American military in anticipation for the push into Germany, their thinking was to make flags with gold stars to go along with the gold star banners that were given by our goverment to families of service men killed in action. The American goverment never sanctioned the gold stars and they were discontinued after a very short run. If what I've read is true, only 150 to 500 were made before they went back to all white stars. Please do your own research if you like, I typed in gold star American flag and it took me to several flag and veteransblogs, and what I've written seems to be the consensus. Please view all pics, and email any questions or comments. Thanks for looking.
