Magnificent mid 19thc gothic mahogany carved devilish head pediment. Dating c.1860's.Excellent attention to detail on this fine pediment. Carved as a horned devilish head with scrolling décor. The pediment is carved in fine relief and intricate detail. The face is really deeply carved with a wonderful expression. Superb hooked nose with open mouth revealing tongue and teeth. A really fine carved piece of excellent quality and incredib...le detail.The pediment measures some 11.5" height x 16.5" length. Condition overall is excellent and age commensurate. Some evidence of historic worm. To either side of devilish head there is a repair to a scrolled section. The break is not through at all, just the top section of each scroll has been repaired.
