Fine Federal New Hampshire Flame Birch Box with Compass Rose Inlaid Top, made in the 1810 era. This striking box features flame birch panels inlaid on all sides, barber pole inlay frames the corners ( never along bottom edge), and an inlaid compass rose on the lid. The interior has a tray and is lined in blue paper, the lid features birdseye maple and a frame which I believe is a Victorian addition. On the lid is signed in pencil " Maranda P. Millen" presumably an owner. The secondary ...wood throughout is walnut. Nicely sized measures 10.75'' long, 6'' wide, and 4.25'' high. The box presents well, it exhibits shrinkage cracks and separations as pictured, lid has a lift, catch to lock on lid has been removed, shrinkage crack and warp to bottom, three stripes of barber pole on bottom rear corner are not present. Please examine pictures and ask any questions.
