This original Stanley rosewood knob is in Good Minus condition due to a small repaired chip at the base which is very secure. It is the later tall style used in types 14 through 16, as well as type 19. It was donated from a type 16 No. 6 and will also fit a No 5-1/2 and No. 5 ONLY Post 1929 PLANES WHICH DO HAVE THE RAISED KNOB RING CAST INTO THE BED OF THE PLANE.It comes with the or...iginal hardware to ensure a proper fit onto the new plane. The threaded rod is 2-3/8" long (which is consistent with No. 5, No. 5-1/2's, & No. 6's from the same era). It has rolled threads, rather than cut threads, which is the process Stanley began using in about 1910. It also has the brass "waisted" style nut which Stanley began using around 1918. Besides the repaired chip at the base, only very minor wear is showing. Height is 2.69"Widest Part is 1.68" DiameterBase is 1.21" Diameter, but does taper down to fit inside of the raised ring that is cast into the bed of the plane.

When applicable, I try to grade the condition of every tool and part objectively using John Walter's grading system from his "Antique & Collectible Stanley Tools" price guide as described below. This is not necessarily an industry standard for grading, and grading vocabulary will vary from collector to collector since there is some subjectivity involved (i.e. "mint" vs. "near mint"). For these reasons, I will also try to list a description of these grades in each listing in order to clarify the grade given to each item. Please refer to the details below and read the "condition" portion of this listing for the condition grading assigned to this item.
MINT: 100% of original finish remaining. No signs of wear or rust - probably never used. No problems or issues.
EXCELLENT: 95-99% of original finish remaining. Very slight wear with no rust. No problems or issues.
GOOD PLUS: 85-95% of original finish remaining. Used but well maintained. Scuffs, light wear, very little rust.
GOOD: 65-85% of original finish remaining. Moderate wear and/or rust. Minor deficiencies - owner's initials, nicks, etc.
GOOD MINUS: 50-65% of original finish remaining. Has seen hard use, but remains serviceable. Scratches, nicks, dents, cracks, chips, improper replacement parts.
FAIR: 25-50% of original finish remaining. Heavy wear and rust. Some parts are broken, missing, or improper - serious flaws.
POOR: 0-25% of original finish remaining. Pitted, abused, heavily worn. Serious damage and missing major parts.
