I am placing for auction my Gibson J160e work horse guitar. I bought this guitar several years ago when I was in an old time country band and was tired of sticking a sound hole pickup in my other guitars. I only used it on stage. The rest of the time I played my several other guitars. I am no longer in a band and see no sense in letting this great old work... horse sit in a closet.
It is in the same condition as when I bought it. It is almost 50 years old and has many scratches and dings including some belt buckle rash. There is a smudge on the pick guard and a solid crack next to the pick guard from pick guard shrinking. There is also a crack by the treble side of the top next to the finger board. My guess is that it had a neck reset at some point and that was resulting damage of taking off the neck. ( TOTALLY CONJECTURE ) See pictures. Also I think that it has had a refret job in the past, (TOTAL CONJECTURE ).The serial number is A014808 which, I believe puts it around 1971. You can get a lot of information from you tube and on line about these guitars. Yes it was made in the 70's when Gibson used double X bracing so it isn't as resonant as traditional X bracing. That being said, it sounds really nice unplugged. But granted, not as beautifully nice as my other vintage Gibsons. The electronics work. I believe that it is a P 90 pickup. The case is original and beat up but working condition.I recently restrung it with Martin medium Retro strings because I like a "warm" old time sound, but you will find that you can get a variety of sounds using different strings.
I SHIP ONLY TO THE 48 STATES OF THE UNITED STATES!!!!!
The winner of this auction was unable to pay for the item so I have relisted it.
