Original Description:
Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a very unique and rare Amperite SR80 "Velocity" ribbon microphone made in New York City during the 1940's. This very seldom seen mic was Amperites flag ship model being the most expensive of the few being offered for sale at that time. It has a very industrial steampunk look that's all it's own and it's massive having the same overall size as the more common RCA 77DX model mic. It comes with i...t's original chrome yoke and a newer short cable. I should state that this mic came to me in a non-working condition as the ribbon was completely worn out. I gave this mic a lite cleaning and had it shipped off to ENAK based out of New Jersey to have the ribbon replaced so this mic is now completely functional having all of it's original components inside. The only new parts are the ribbon itself and the cable as the original was dry rotted and in bad shape. Pic # 2 shows the variant SR80 mic as it was listed in the 1940's with basic specs and it's original price. I  believe the SR80 is set at high impedance but it does have a nice warm tone to it. It's bi-directional picking up sound only from the front and rear. It should be noted that while the mic works like new these older ribbon mics don't have the same signal strength as many newer ribbon mics so you'll want to use some gain on her to get it up to par. That being said this is one of the nicest sounding 40's era ribbons I have ever heard. Far better than the E.V V-1 or V-2 models by far. This is going to be a fun mic for most any occasion. Due to the rarity and good overall condition this is going to be a very wise investment.  The SR80 weighs roughly 6 pounds and is appx 10 inches tall (with yoke) X 4 iches across. Really quite massive. These models only pop up on Ebay about once a year and rarely as nice as this one being offered. As you can see in the pictures provided this microphone has typical cosmetic wear but overall in very good condition. It can also be used for display or prop purposes. The SR80 has an all metal housing with a chromed metal yoke for pivoting. Most I come across are in very rough condition but this one is a pretty good example and would do any collector justice. There are signs of paint loss, scratches and scuff marks but otherwise free of dents, fractures or corrosion. The grill / screens looks very good as well with zero dents. The original cloth inner pop filters are still present and in excellent condition. You might want to use another larger pop filter in front of the mic for maximum effect but that's your choice. The joint mechanism has plenty of tension as well and you can get the right angle needed on the mic head. You may hang this mic from a boom arm as well and it will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have. The mic comes with a bottom adapter (as seen in pic # 11) so you can use any universal stand or the older RCA 1/2 inch thread stands. The lower yoke has a beautiful polished chrome plating that really pops. Zero fractures but you can see a crack on the cable clamp in pic # 10. Clamp is still well secured and will stay on via the two screws. Still works great. The cable itself is new. Soft, pliable and shows no wear. The female Cannon XLR connector is quite old but works perfect. It's balanced and you just need to attach any longer XLR cable of choice If you want a truly rare older American ribbon mic to use daily then you should consider this SR80.  MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY AND NOT PART OF THIS SALE. I do have plenty of mic stands for sale in my Ebay store if you need one. Thank you. As with all my vintage items... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and item relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping.   If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.
