Columbus Railway King
Columbus Watch Co. 18 size 23 jewel open face lever-set "Columbus Railway King" pocket watch movement/dial/hands. A rare high grade movement with attractive fancy nickel damaskeen finish, it is believed that only approximately 360 total 23 jewel open face Columbus movements were made. This total is divided among movements marked "Columbus King" and "Columbus Railway King, " and based on known exmaples of the two markings this "Columbus Railway King"... appears to be the significantly rarer of the two. Movement is fronted by a double-sunk enamel "Columbus King 23 Jewels" signed dial, this differing dial signature being interesting but I suspect still likely the original to this movement. Serial number is 502840.Not running. Fully wound and balance wheel tilts to the side indicating a likely bad balance staff and/or balance jewel(s). Very nice looking movement cosmetically with excellent color and luster. Regulator spring is a larger sized replacement that overhangs the foot of the balance cock somewhat. Dial is superb with no flaws.
