Original Description:
Quite simply this is one of the largest best toggle harpoons you will ever see.  At almost one foot long this ancient toggle harpoon was designed for the mind boggling task of hunting some of the largest animals on the planet from essentially an oversized canoe!  Long before western whaling fleets entered the Bering Sea, the indigenous cultures were successfully hunting whales from skin boats.  This  early example has ce...nturies of weathering/patina with a slate blade (both authentic artifacts in their own right)  (The blade has a crack at its base I tried to photograph).  This is an iconic example of the artifacts produced by early Bering Sea cultures in its largest form.  It is a great piece and is top shelf worthy in any collection.  Last two photos are on a 1" x 1" grid.  Please look at our other items.
