Here's an oddball and rare guitar. It's a 1981 (serial number says built on June 21st), Gibson Sonex Artist model. These were only made for a few years and are quite unusual. Not the lower 180 or Deluxe models, this is the high end Artist version with set neck (not bolt on) and active on-board MOOG electronics! Essentially, it's a compressor, expander and active EQ. All work fine. Standard equipment also includes Multiphonic body construction, tune-o-matic bridge (this one is off...set), TP-6 fine tuning tailpiece, two standard humbuckers, speed knobs, posi-lock strap buttons, 3-piece maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, "Artist" truss rod cover, etc. This one was bought new at the famous Charlie's Guitar shop here in Dallas by the previous owner (no paper work but he told me). It's in very nice shape but not perfect. He played it a lot but wasn't real good about cleaning it. It's rare with the candy apple finish which is in good shape with some light scuffs but no serious damage whatsoever. Back of body has some black sticker residue which I will let the new owner clean. Headstock sides have the dreaded rubber stand burn-thru where the rubber basically eats through the finish. Some chrome finishes have sweat wear and light corrosion. Entire thing needs a thorough cleaning including frets. Plays great, loud as hell, no breaks, looks awesome. Has original chainsaw case with era stickers. See last pic for official Gibson overview.
