ANTIQUE CLAY BRICK STILES & HART @1913 (S&H) Design a Massachusetts Brickmaker. The Frank Stiles Brick Co. started in 1892 in North Haven, CT. The Hart Co. of Bridgewater, Massachusetts bought the Stiles Brick Co out in 1913. The brick featured in these photos is the first imprint placed in the FROG / Indentation of the merged company, S & H. The Headquarters for the newly merged brick company was 127 Cook St, Bridgewater M...ass. The Clay deposits in the Bridgewater Massachusetts area were of high mineral quality for making superior bricks when mixed with aggregate and fired. The locatio of southern New England / southeastern Massachusetts made shipment of brick easy by either train or barge. Please see the photos of the various styles of Stiles & Hart bricks. Fortunately, through further buy outs of smaller brick companies in the 20th Century, Stiles & Hart survived the down turn in the demand for brick as the main building material as steel was introduced in construction in the 1930s. The Stiles and Hart Brick Company also survived the Hurricane of 1938 that destroyed several brick yards in 1938 such as the Sage Brick Co on Long Island.
