Wewere never into radiator caps or hood ornaments until we ran across this WingedGoddess. ABSOLUTELY perfect andbeautiful. She is a true work ofart! She is 4 3/8” tall over the tip ofher nose, 4” at the top of her wings. The base is 3 5/8” front to back, 3” across the widest part of the base, 15/16 at the very front of the base. Overall length 4 5/8” from chest to end of base, 3 ¾’ from ch...est to endof wingtips. Width across the wings odto od is 1 3/16”. There is NO damage, pitting, rust, or tarnish!! We found a picture of her on a 1932 DeSoto on pinterest.Theunderside of the base is marked ‘J Jarvis 1357 Pts Pend Pat no. 1683038 with ¼ - 20’ (which is ¼ in. bolt with 20threads per inch.) Jarvis (of GrandRapids Michigan) applied for the patent on July 12, 1923 and received a patenton Sept. 4th 1928 for a new and improved radiator cap – which thisornament fit. The Goddess was made byDoehler Die Casting of Toledo, OH (the major die caster of hood ornaments from1900 to 1930s and bought out Jarvis in 1946) and was sold to Jarvis who did thefinishing work on the figure. I know –TMI – but I LEARNED a LOT!!
Ifyou are interested – we have additional pieces that were attached when we foundher and will include for FREE if you want them. She was screwed on to a rectangular base with ‘Hickok’ on the undersidewith a coat of arms. There was a roundplate on top with a special support that was cut to fit over her wings withoutdamaging them. We assumed that she wasused as an automotive display. I doubtif there is another one like this anywhere.
SHEIS WONDERFULLY EXCELLENT!!!
GoodLuck!!

No. If you look at the picture from the rear you can see that it is more dull than the front or back part of the sides. The main polishing done was to the base, her gown in front, her legs and feet and front part of her sides - evidently so they would 'stand out', the outside of the wings and her face (except for the eyes which are not polished) the front/top part of her hair and the top of the folds of the 'material' were polished although the inner parts were not - which really gives it a flowing fabric appearance. The back does not have the polishing that the front does. It does not detract, but rather focuses on the areas that make her so gorgeous. We cleaned her rather ferociously once we saw the first bit of shine. Removing the stand and the plate resting on her wings was a real eye-opener. At first we thought she had been used as an ash-tray base because of the other things attached to her - we were HAPPILY surprised!
