Historical Information:The Los Angeles Co Sheriff Shooting Pins were first issued in 1934. Initially known as the LASO - Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office. The LA Sheriff's department maintained their own range and also the LA Sheriff's Revolver Club range. Each issued revolver qualification pin depends on the specific score on a course of fire. The Dept. monthly "Police Course" of fire has a maximum score of 300 points. "DX-Distinguished Expert 300" (Perfect Score) (Extremely Rare)"DX- Distinguished Expert" (290-299)"Expert" (275-289)"Sharpshooter" (255-274)"Marksman" (232-254) The shooting pins with a red star or red ruby stone signifies a qualifying score shot on the "Combat" course of fire. Most of the pins have the year of issue The LASD was established in 1850 but the deputies did not start wearing the all green issued uniform until 1934. Due to the fact that deputies were now in uniform, revolver qualification pins were then authorized. The initial pins in 1934 are similar to military qualification pins. The subsequent pins varied over time in design and were manufactured by the Entenmann Rovin Badge company located in Los Angeles, CA. This company still manufacturers the Deputy Sheriff uniform badges currently issued.
