Up for auction is a rare gold plated Type-2, early 1940's Los Angeles County Sheriff Department Distinguished Expert - "300" shooting pin. Based on the style, I estimate this pin to be circa 1940 to 1945, World War II era. The last photo with the three pins is for reference, regarding the different Types #1, 2, 3 variations.

This uniform qualification badge was issued to LASD deputy personnel that scored "DX Expert" 290 to 299 points on the revolver course of fire. This nearly 80 year old pin is extremely difficult to find and rarely comes up for auction. The Ruby red stone signifies that the expert score was shot on the "Combat" revolver course of fire. Disclaimer, I have no idea if it is a real ruby stone. Gold filled (plated) Entenmann stamped on back. ****Shipping via USPS Priority Mail, Fully Insured****

Historical Information:The Los Angeles Co Sheriff Shooting Pins were first issued in 1934. Initially known as the LASO - Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office. The LA Sheriff's department maintained their own range and also the LA Sheriff's Revolver Club range. Each issued revolver qualification pin depends on the specific score on a course of fire. The Dept. monthly "Police Course" of fire has a maximum score of 300 points. "DX-Distinguished Expert 300" (Perfect Score) (Extremely Rare)"DX- Distinguished Expert" (290-299)"Expert" (275-289)"Sharpshooter" (255-274)"Marksman" (232-254) The shooting pins with a red star or red ruby stone signifies a qualifying score shot on the "Combat" course of fire. Most of the pins have the year of issue The LASD was established in 1850 but the deputies did not start wearing the all green issued uniform until 1934. Due to the fact that deputies were now in uniform, revolver qualification pins were then authorized. The initial pins in 1934 are similar to military qualification pins. The subsequent pins varied over time in design and were manufactured by the Entenmann Rovin Badge company located in Los Angeles, CA. This company still manufacturers the Deputy Sheriff uniform badges currently issued. lapd police
