Original Description:
Very Rare highly tinted Calotype with Civil War Tax Stamp affixed on back, dating it to the 1864 to 1866 time period. The newsprint strip was wrapped  like tape around the cardstock to hold the mat and glass tightly together. I carefully cut the edges to clean the glass and blow off the image and mat and yet preserve the newsprint as much as possible. At first I thought this was a CDV type image somebody stuck behind a mat and glass, but the image is not a cut-down CDV card a...nd there does appear to be paper fibers visible like you see on a Calotype. Really nice family scene and highly unusual item for a collection. The Preserver is not original to the image, but one I replaced for a broken one
