A rare photograph of Miles M.57 Aerovan MkIV G-AJOF, operated by Patrick Duval Aviation Service of Birmingham, seen hereat Elmdon in 1948; in 1957 the aircraft was converted to an HDM.105 by replacingthe wooden wing of a standard Aerovan with a high aspect ratio wing designed byHurel-Dubois. As such, it first flew in March 1957 with the B-classregistration G-35-3. It then became G-AHDM, but was severely damaged in alanding accident at Shoreham in June 1958; subsequently, the Hurel...-Dubois wingswere removed and put in storage and the wooden remains of G-AHDM disposed of atShoreham. The legacy of the HDM.105 wasthat the design of its proposed development, the larger HDM.106, was sold toShort Bros., eventually to become the Short Skyvan. The photograph isapproximately 5½ x 3½ inches (140 x 90 mm), and is in Fine condition.Details of the aircrafthave been neatly written on the reverse.
