Original Description:
An extremely rare photograph of the MilesM.12 Mohawk wearing the manufacturer’s serial U8 – later becomingG-AEKW.  It was built by Phillip &Powis Aircraft (later Miles Aircraft) for Charles Lindbergh in 1936. Afterbeing used by Lindbergh it was put into storage at Woodley in 1939, and impressedinto service with the RAF as HM503 in 1941.   In February 1944, the aircraft was deliveredto No. 5 Maintenance Unit at RAF Kemble for storage and was no...t flown bythe RAF again. In October 1949, the Mohawk was flown toNorth Africa to participate in the Oran International Rally, but on the journeyhome the aircraft made a forced landing in Spain, and was abandoned, never tofly again.  In 1973, it was discovered ina junkyard near Seville and was taken to the USA for restoration which wasnever completed, and in 2002, the aircraft was shipped to the RAF Museum atHendon.The photograph isapproximately 5½ x 3½ inches (140 x 90 mm), and is in Fine condition.  It is not an original print but appears to be a print from a copy neg.Details of the aircrafthave been neatly written on the reverse.
