ITEM: This is a vintage & original double deck of Pin-Up playing cards by top tier pin-up artists Alberto Vargas, with automobilia advertising for Service Lubricants Co. Titled Comme Ci Comme Ca (Anything Goes). This listing has two complete decks of cards, both with 2 jokers, in the fancy original gold foil gift box. Every image is different on each card as well as 2 jokers. Alberto Vargas is often considered one of the most famous of the pin-up artists. His early career in New York included work as an artist for the Ziegfeld Follies and for many Hollywood studios. Ziegfeld hung his painting of Olive Thomas at the theater, and she was thought of as one of the earliest Vargas Girls. He became widely noted in the 1940s as the creator of iconic World War-II era pin-ups for Esquire magazine known as "Vargas Girls." The nose art of many American and Allied World War II aircraft was inspired and adapted from these Esquire pin-ups, as well those of George Petty, and other artists. He struggled financially until the 1960s when Playboy magazine began to use his work, calling the images "Vargas Girls." His career flourished and he had major exhibitions of his work all over the world. Vargas is widely regarded as one of the finest artists in his genre.
The cards are clean and look unused. The box is also very clean just a beautiful set of pin-up cards.
Very fine condition throughout one deck is unopened and still sealed the other deck is unused and also in mint condition the box too looks great as seen !!
