Both the mouthpiece and the cord are new. Door closure: The door is fitted with a key closure mechanism. When the mechanism is rotated, a metal "tongue" is supposed to rotate into a slot in the wooden side wall of the box to secure the door. The lock mechanism does rotate smoothly, and the condition of the slot in the wooden sidewall is fair/functional . The "tongue" does catch in the slot and secure the door. We were able to rotate the closure mechanism using an old key that we had on hand, however, AN OLD KEY DID NOT COME WITH THIS PHONE. *** Please be advised that an old key is NOT included in this sale ***.Interior: Inside is an unmarked 4 bar magneto which is composed of chrome bars. When cranked, the magneto does not ring the bells. When we direct wired the magneto to the bells, they rang. There is a break in the vintage wiring between the magneto and the bells, but both components work. Both the switch hook and the ringer are unmarked. The ringer bears a patent date. (2755)Getting started with your item: In order to avoid damage during shipment, we may remove some parts and package them separately within the shipping box You may find that the mouthpiece, the crank, and the receiver need to be reinstalled, depending on the item you have purchased. Use a clockwise motion to reinstall the mouthpiece and crank. To ring the bells, read the listing information. Sometimes, while cranking, there is a button that has to be concurrently pushed, and sometimes the receiver has to be in either the "hung up" or in the "off switch hook" position.
