Extremely rare late 1800's cast iron advertising clock for Beacon Hill Cigars. Case measures about 10-1/4 inches (26.0 cm) tall, is made of cast iron (tested with a magnet) with a bronze finish, and it is in the shape of a clock tower. Base of clock is impressed BEACON-LIGHT-CIGARS. Back of clock has British registry number 83065 which dates the original product to 1887. The clock is made by Westclox, and it is a "La Sallita" model; the last patent date on the c...lock is 1909. I have included a picture of a La Sallita clock in the listing. The clock itself may not be original; there are however indentations in the cast iron for the legs of the clock and the peg at the top of the clock (minus the ring). You decide if the clock belongs there, but it fits well. Beacon Light Cigars were first produced in 1860, and I found an advertisement in a 1909 issue of the trade publication The Tobacco Leaf, so these dates correspond to both the manufacture of the clock and the case. I can find no other examples of this advertising product, so it is a rare bird indeed
Condition: very good overall. Clock case is in excellent condition, with most of the bronze finish intact, and no chips or cracks or other damage. The clock itself will only run for a few seconds and stop, so it will need a cleaning and adjustment, possibly a repair. The clock face and crystal are in excellent condition, with no discoloration or damage
