The book was published by D. & J. Sadlier & Co., NewYork, dated likely 1870, as shown in the preface of the translator Mary AnneSadlier who translated the French work from Abbe Orsini (1802-1875). A phrase“Entered according to the Act of Congress, in the year 1853, -- �...� is also foundin the book, showing the year the copyright had been registered by the Companyas rights holder. Coming from a Catholic family inMassachusetts, the book with brass clasps features an embossed leather-likehardcover with Mother Mary holding Baby Jesus on the front and a Cross on theback. Gold gilt decoration with etched and attractive designs is found allaround on the hardcovers, spine and page edges. Family photos are attached, including a photo of the Pope Pius IX (1792-1878, head from 1846-1878) and aphoto of the Pope Leo XIII (1810-1903, head from 1878-1903). D. & J.
