Very rare and very beautiful, ca1890’s Native American Northern California / Klamath Indian Basket. This rather delicate, soft sided, hand woven Basket measure approx. 8" in diameter at the top and approx. 5 1/2" tall.
This wonderful Northern California Indian Basket Bowl is made using various grasses of different colors including river willow stick, river willow root, beargrass, etc. The design features a repeating steps with triangular projections. This ...is a somewhat odd Klamath Basket with the surface extensively covered in design rather than like the more commonly seen Klamath baskets which tend to have sparse designs leaving much of the field open without a design.
The Northern California Klamath Basket offered here is unconditionally guaranteed original and of the period. It is NOT a reproductions or modern recreations but an original Klamath Basket crafted in the 19th century. This rare and very beautiful, ca1890's Northern California Indian Basket is in very good condition and displays beautifully. The weave is tight and strong. The surface is clean and exhibits a stunningly beautiful, age appropriate and uniform patina throughout. There is no loss or wear at the top edge however there is some minor loss to the weft in one area of the side and some loss to the double line “rope” like border at the bottom. Overall the basket is well preserved and displays beautifully.
