This is one of the most intriguing and beautiful specimens I've cut in a top grade stand-up. It's an incomplete cross section from a petrified log showing dark richly patterned wood grain with rich, natural color! This is an incredibly highly agatized, gem grade petrified wood specimen with amazing growth rings and intricately preserved wood structure when viewed under magnification. This piece has tight rings and ring porous cell structure th...at looks similar to modern elm. It comes from a single hole that was dug out years ago in the McDermitt caldera that produced some of the best preserved, most gem like petrified logs I've ever seen from anywhere! Combined with the magnificent polish and the exotic, antiquated creamy exterior texture you have one of the most incredible natural sculptures you could hope to find! The weathered white surface contrasts so nicely with the lovely woody tones the wood is preserved in you'll just be amazed! This is a really prime specimen of the petrified wood found in a desolate sagebrush desert that spans over 100 square miles on the Oregon/Nevada border. It's a pretty nice wedge shaped piece of petrified wood, with absolutely gorgeous gem quality agate in many rich colors preserving this ancient fossil. The exterior is still ash white - colored by the ancient volcanic blast that buried this prehistoric forest. The inside, however, is a richly colored array of gem quality agate that preserved the wood grain beautifully in every detail! The cell structure from the growth rings in this attractive fossil specimen are very well defined and flow artfully. This is one of Oregon's premier petrified wood deposits known to collectors the world over. If you don't have a specimen from this area, this would be a dandy to get you acquainted!! This wedge shaped display piece was cut at a steep sloping angle and then polished to show off all the gemmy detail inside. The base is cut flat so that you can present it nicely without a stand and show it off on a bookshelf or table. It took a beautiful polish, it really does look like a mirror! It's another one of those beautiful fossil treasures that some happy Sticks-in-Stones customer is going to flip over! This is a medium sized, richly colored, stunning display piece.
