This beauty features a gorgeous American Walnut cabinet, large & lighted dial, great Art Deco appeal and fantastic performance.
Cabinet: The American Walnut cabinet is a real eye catcher. ...Beautiful wood grain flows throughout the entire set with an attractive zebra stripe inlay at the bottom. Its rounded top and squared off bottom remind you of the elegant designs so popular with the Art Deco era. A large open grill not only looks great but allows for optimal sound from the speaker. Dark walnut tones finish the cabinet off with the perfect contrast. This radio is sure to attract attention no matter which room in the home or office you choose to display it in. Dial & Knobs: The over sized dial really grabs your attention. It is illuminated by two top mounted dial lamps for easy dim or dark room tuning. The AM broadcast scale is displayed on the top of the dial and shortwave on the bottom. A surrounding brass escutcheon shines nicely adding an elegant touch. The three knobs control on/off & volume, band switch and tuning.Grill Cloth: The 1930’s stylegrill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a classic gold color with charcoal colored diamond pattern. This grill cloth can also bepurchased separately on our other eBay auctions. Chassis: All tubes in the 5 tube (6 including the ballast tube) chassis were testedwith any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors werechecked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced orre-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed and re-aligned for optimalperformance. Using the included copper line antenna the radio performs very well. I'm able to receive all of my local stations across the AM broadcast band with good tone and plenty of volume. I was also able to pick up a few shortwave stations, especially at night.
The Cabinet’s Finish and Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinetsundergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the naturalbeauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. Weachieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sandthe cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, andblemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We makesure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detractfrom the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers areapplied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers andtoners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished inthe factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through aprofessional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room.Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allowsthe lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sandingfollows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Ozglaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, thefinal outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster&shine. Antique tube radio reception can differ greatly depending on location, length of antenna, time of day and amount of interference in different areas. Many modern day appliances can also interfere with reception. This is a 75+ year old AM radio. It's reception, sound and performance should not be expected to compare to a modern radio with today's technology. Playing capability is accurately described based on my location, surroundings and hooked up to a 12’ copper line antenna. The antenna will be included with the sale but I cannot guarantee reception quality in your area. It may differ (better or worse) depending on your location, surroundings, distance from AM broadcasts in your vicinity and interference.
