L.J. Peretti Smooth Canadian/ Featherweight/ Handmade U.S.A./ MINT Peretti is the brand of Robert A.Peretti, then owner of the L.J. Peretti Co., a tobacconist founded in Boston byhis grandfather, L. Joseph Peretti 150 years ago in 1870. The firstpipes made date from the 1920s, and Robert began producing them in 1938. Thecustomers of this well-known tobacco and pipe shop included the former Britishprime minister, Ramsey MacDonald, and also Bing Crosby, Basil Rathbone, EdwardG. Robinson,... and Walter Matthau.Some very lively grain on this ultra-featherweightPeretti. It is an absolute thing of beauty. It must be in hand to be fullyappreciated. Pipe has a beautifully unrestricted wide-open draw. Draft hole isdead center flush with the bottom of the bowl. Bowl interior is very, very clean& sound, nearly un-smoked. Tenon to mortise union is smooth as silk, sound, snug and flush. The Vulcanite stem is a crisp jet-black bearing no markswhatsoever. Pipe does not accept a filter.
