1940 ' S Era Hamilton Gimballed Chronometer Watch Model 22 Hamilton Clock - ARMY
Item History & Price
So the first thing to point out on this watch (often referred to as... a deck watch) is it's large size. It's a 35 Size and about 70mm in diameter at the main plate of the movement. The largest pocket watch Hamilton made was an 18 Size, so this is a very sizable time piece.
Most of the Model 22s you will see were made for the US Navy. Watches made for the US Army are much more uncommon, and US Army gimbaled watches are rarely seen, which makes the watch offered here pretty special.
This watch shows signs of wear - scratches on the glass face, a bit of corrosion, and scratches on the box. Look at the photos closely and you can see evidence of all of these defects.
As the videos on my website evidence, this watch works. The winding mechanism is a bit fussy sometimes however. Sometimes it winds, and sometimes it doesn’t.
