Original Description:
c1817 AIMÉE CATHERINE CLERIN ANTIQUE 19thC FRENCH SOLID SILVER FISH SLICE SERVER
Description:A substantial antique French solid silver fish server, made by the rarely found French female silversmith,  Aimée-Catherine Clerin (widow of Antoine Lecour), active between 1807-1819 in Rouen, France.

This beautiful fish slice has solid silver blade and turned fruitwood handle.... It has been extremely well decorated with a central hand engraved 'Pike' fish surrounded by intricate engraved and pierced scrolling Rococo style pattern to the upper edge and engine turned and engraved foliate detail to the lower edge. The underside is also engraved with a Coat of Arms - a shield with a crowned rampant lion and a castle flanked by two further rampant lions. The blade is very clearly hallmarked as follows:Upper surface:- Silver grade 1: French Poinçon au Deuxième Coq 1, First Standard mark, guaranteeing 950/1000 purity, used in Paris 1809-1819Assay office 1: Paris - Roman Head for meduim objects used 1809-1819Silver grade 2: French Vieillard (Michal-Ange) First Standard mark, guaranteeing 950/1000 purity, used in Paris 1819-1838Assay office 2: Paris - Medusa Head for large objects used 1819-1838
Underside:-
Makers mark: ACC with a winged head below a crown,  Aimée-Catherine Clerin's first mark registered 1817,  worked at 12 rue Bailleul, Hotel d'Aligre, 1807-1819.Association des Orevres 'P' mark next to the maker's mark in use from 1793
Whilst it's curious that the blade bears marks used after 1819, bearing in mind that the makers mark was registered in 1817 (it was changed to a secondary mark with the same initials and a crowned cup in 1818). The logical explanation is that is was assayed again post 1819 as it required a large guarantee mark rather than the medium which had been used previously.
