This is Miles Marathon 2 Original Ministry of Supply ATP Photo 1949 (1) An original Ministry of Supply ATP photograph of the only Miles Marathon 2 G-AHXU at Woodley in July 1949. Using two Armstrong Siddeley Mamba engines, G-AHXU first flew on the 23rd July 1949. Failing to attract orders after three years of development flying the aircraft was passed to De Havilland Propellers for test work in 1951 where it took up the military serial VX231. Re-engined with Alvis Leonides Major engine...s in 1955, testing continued until it was sold to Armstrong Siddeley in June 1958 but was subsequently scrapped at Bitteswell in October 1959.
